About
My name is Simone Balvers, and I am a PhD student in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.
My main research focuses on retailing in emerging markets. I study how to organize and digitalize the supply chain of mom-and-pop (aka nanostores). I study, for example, how supply timing uncertainty and the introduction of digital sales channels (call center or app ordering) impact (nanostore) ordering behavior. In terms of research methodologies, I use experiments and econometric techniques.
Prior to starting my PhD, I obtained a master’s degree in Operations Management and Logistics and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology. I have also worked as logistics engineer at a 3PL.
